What is a scholarly or peer reviewed article?

You have probably been asked to find scholarly or peer reviewed sources or articles. Here is an overview of what that means.

In scholarly/peer reviewed articles:

  • The author is an expert in the subject
  • The content is evaluated by other experts before publication
  • All of their information sources are cited

Some databases in the online library contain all scholarly material while others have an option to search for only scholarly/peer reviewed articles.  You will usually see an option to limit your search results to Scholarly/Peer Reviewed under Advanced Search or as an option to limit your search results when you are searching in our online databases.
